어느 날 야쿠자에게 쫓기던 유지와 고사쿠는 아오야나기란 남자의 도움을 받는다. 바보스러울 정도로 정의감에 넘치는 아오야나기는 아메미야란 야쿠자를 추방하기 위한 시민운동에 참가하고 있다. 아오야니기의 여동생 레이코의 부탁으로 이 추방운동을 돕게 된 유지는, 아메미야가 악덕 야쿠자가 아니라 단지 좀 무례한 다다미 장수란 것을 알게 된다. 하지만 야쿠자 행세를 하는 게 낙인 아메미야는 그 사실을 함구해달라고 부탁한다. 그러던 중 아오야나기가 다리에 총을 맞는 사건이 발생하고, 아메미야가 범인으로 지목된다. 아메미야를 설득해 마을을 떠나도록 한 유지는 일약 마을의 영웅이 되지만, 유지는 총격사건이 아오야나기의 자작극이었음을 알아차린다. 아오야나기는 유지에게 저격의 누명을 씌우고, 신변의 위협을 느낀 유지는 고사쿠 앞에서 모습을 감춘다. 그리고 1년 후...

여느 때처럼 해결사 일을 하던 유지와 고사쿠는 자동차 사고를 낸 OL 미나코를 돕게 된다. 며칠 후, 야쿠자들의 싸움 현장에 있다가 우연히 헤로인을 손에 넣게 된 미나코가 유지에게 그 처리를 부탁한다. 8백만엔 상당의 헤로인 처리를 의뢰받은 두 사람 앞에 야쿠자 3인조와 마약상이 나타나 매입경쟁을 벌인다. 헤로인을 판 돈으로 불륜상대인 회사 상사 오카야마와 함께 여행을 떠나려던 미나코는 헤로인이 더 있음을 실토하는데, 그 총량은 자그마치 8억엔 어치에 이른다. 그렇게 많은 양의 마약을 가지고 있다가는 마약 관계자들에게 살해당할 것이라고 생각한 유지 일행은 온갖 고생을 하며 헤로인을 모두 버린다. 하지만 야쿠자 3인조가 오카야마를 납치하면서 사태는 급변한다. 폭력단 고자키 파의 두목 고자키는 딸 아스카가 허락없이 남자와 사귀는 것을 알고 유지와 고사쿠에게 뒷조사를 의뢰한다. 한편 아스카가 야쿠자의 딸인 줄 모르고 일방적인 유혹에 빠졌던 재수생 기무라는 목숨의 위협을 느끼고 숙부가 살고 있는 호주로 도망치려 한다. 호주의 물가가 일본의 1/5이라는 말에 호주를 향한 꿈에 빠져있던 유지와 고사쿠는 기무라와 함께 호주에 갈 생각을 하고, 여기에 기무라의 원래 애인 요코와 아스카까지 가세하는 바람에 사태는 혼란에 빠지게 된다. 한바탕 소동을 겪고 난 후 다시 일상으로 되돌아오게 되는 두 남자의 모습을 통해 진한 페이소스를 느끼게 하는 작품.
