Yukiko Iioka

사랑을 과하게 원하는 전대미문의 누나와 남동생의 이야기가 병행하여 진행된다. 누나는 우연히 만난 기억상실증에 걸린 소년을 자신의 진짜 아들이라고 주장하고, 남동생은 래퍼로서의 창작 활동에 매진하다 못해 아내를 궁지에 몰아넣는다. 두 이야기는 이윽고 교차하여 어느새 되돌릴 수 없는 국면으로 치닫는다.

주인공 사치는 아르바이트로 카페에서 일하고 있다. 새로운 아파트로 이사를 가서 그곳에 살던 전주인과 대화하는 장면이 나오고, 카페에서 손님을 만나는 장면이 이어진다. 어느 날 숙모가 집으로 찾아오고, 그 사실을 모르는 삼촌도 사치의 집을 방문한다. (제26회 부산국제영화제)

메이코는 집으로 돌아가는 택시 안에서 친구에게 새로운 연애 상대 이야기를 듣는다. 여대생 나오는 교수 앞에서 그가 쓴 소설의 일부를 낭독한다. 20년 만에 고향을 찾은 나츠코는 그토록 만나고 싶던 동창생과 재회한다. 우연이 만들어내는 조용히 아주 크게 움직이는 인생의 순간들이 있다. 이 영화는 그에 대한 상상의 결과물이다.

영화화를 전제로 ‘빛’을 주제로 한 단가(短歌) 콘테스트를 개최, 그곳에서 뽑힌 4수의 단가를 바탕으로 하여 네 개의 장으로 만든 영화다. 각각의 장은 독립된 중편으로 감상할 수도 있는데, 모든 장에서 도쿄 교외에서 살아가는 젊은 여성을 주인공으로 설정하고 있으며 등장인물이 부르는 ‘노래’ 장면이 삽입되는 등의 공통점도 발견할 수 있다.

Yukiko comes to Tokyo from Ehime and continues to live in a place where she knows nobody. One day, she happens to meet a young man who comes and goes from her workplace.

The third part of a trilogy focusing on the Tohoku region that is comprised of dialogues with victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Ideas on how to share experiences of the disaster with future generations, a challenge touched upon in the previous films The Sound of Waves and Voices from the Waves, is found in folk tales from the region. At a train station in the suburbs of Tokyo, an accident takes place causing death and injury. Tsuyoshi is at the scene and witnesses the death of a woman. Right before the accident occurred, Tsuyoshi took a photograph of the woman, who carried a gentle look. Later, Tsuyoshi learns the woman has a daughter named Kiriko. Tsuyoshi meets Kiriko.

The poet Koichi Masuno always goes to his friends to give them his poetry collection "Kujikena", which is about to be published.

Kohei and Akira are a couple running away together without a destination. They meet a geology researcher namend Shiraki on the way and the three visit a log cabin of a famous geologist Kanbe. With fortune teller Eiko, ex-girlfriend of Kanbe, joining the party, five people of diverse ages, sexes, statutes, and professions happen to spend a night together in the log cabin deep in the mountains. As the strangers get to know each other and grow closer, each one of their hidden pasts is brought to light. Meanwhile, following a thunderstorm and an earthquake, something even worse is approaching them...
