고물상을 경영하는 아버지 앨버트(Albert Steptoe: 윌프리드 브램벨 분)와 아들 해롤드(Harold Steptoe: 해리 H.코벳 분)는 하루도 조용할 날이 없다. 이번에는 아들 해롤드가 루그비클럽의 스트립 댄서인 지티와 결혼하기로 약속하면서 또 다시 소동이 일어난다. 결혼식장으로 출발하기 전 앨버트의 심술로 인해 결혼반지를 잃어버린 이들은 거름더미 속에서 반지를 찾아 온통 악취를 풍기며 결혼식을 치룬다. 식이 끝나고 신혼여행을 가게된 해롤드와 지타, 그 곁에는 고집세고 질투가 심한 앨버트가 따라 붙는다.
