북부 콜롬비아의 사막 지역인 구히라의 원주민 와유 가족은 전통적인 삶의 방식을 고수하는 동시에 지리적 위치로 인해 항상 외부인과의 긴장관계 속에 놓여 있다. 70년대 히피 문화에 젖은 미국인들이 구히라의 경계 구역에 찾아오면서 마리화나 거래가 시작되고, 이내 와유 가족은 마리화나 거래를 가족 사업으로 확장한다. 부족의 수장인 우르슐라를 필두로 한 마약 사업은 이내 번창하지만, 곧 가족과 이들의 전통은 위기를 맞이하게 된다.
