비크람은 배우로 성공하기 위해 뭄바이로 온 수많은 청년 중 하나다. 영화 집안이 아니면 좀처럼 발을 들여놓기 힘든 인도 영화계에서 비크람이 기회를 얻을 확률은 거의 없다. 학교를 함께 다닌 시나리오 작가를 꿈꾸는 친구와 연극에서 활동하며 기회를 기다리는 친구와 함께 지내던 비크람은 자신과 마찬가지로 스타를 꿈꾸는 여배우 소나를 만나게 된다. 둘은 곧 사랑에 빠지고 서로에게 힘이 되어주지만 기회는 좀처럼 오지 않는다. 그러나 제목처럼 ‘우연한 행운’이 비크람에게 찾아온다. 대규모 영화의 주연을 맡기로 한 스타 배우가 그만두면서 비크람이 주연을 맡게 된 것이다. 그러나 갑자기 찾아온 성공은 비크람에게 새로운 시련을 안겨준다.
