라이딩 빈은, 국내에 건스미스 캣츠 등의 작품으로 이름이 알려진 소노다 켄이치 씨의 동명 작품을 OVA화 하여 출시한 작품입니다. 원작은 건담 센티넬 소설 등으로 알려진 다카하시 마사야 씨가 1988년 9월부터 89년 2월까지 연재한 'Crash Chase'의 삽화 코믹으로 연재되었고 연재가 종료한 89년에 OVA화 발표. (참고로 완전히 코믹스판으로 연재했던 버전은 건 스미스 캣츠 애장판 4권에 권말부록으로 수록되어 있습니다.) 본 작품은 작가나 팬 모두 건 스미스 캣츠의 전신으로 인정하는 작품입니다만, 건 스미스 캣츠가 권총을 주로 한 건 액션물인 것과 달리 카 액션물입니다. 아무래도 주인공이 건 스미스 캣츠의 유명한 운반책 빈 밴딧이다 보니. 단지 건 스미스 캣츠에선 설정이 변경되는 부분이 몇 있기 때문에 소위 '제로' 개념의 전작이라 보긴 약간 어렵다는 점은 있습니다. 라리 빈센트가 백인에 처음부터 빈의 동료로 나온다든가 하는 점이 대표적.

In a dystopic and futuristic Tokyo, humanity’s genetic code has gone awry.
