Saotome is a white-collar worker on the brink of a burnout who one day strikes up a friendship with Gen, a boorish drifter who approaches life one day at a time.
When her only relative, her elder brother is accused of robbing and murdering an old woman loan-shark, pretty, young Kiriko travels from her home in Kyushu to Tokyo to get Japan's top lawyer to defend her brother. Unfortunately her naive idealism is shattered when the lawyer refuses to take the case based on her insufficient funds. What follows is a long determined revenge plot that sees the heroine become a Tokyo bar hostess and worse to punish the lawyer. The plot thickens with another murder mystery and a sleuthing reporter.
도쿄 올림픽을 앞둔 일본. 미국을 동경하는 다쓰오는 작은 클럽에서 허드렛일을 하며 가수의 꿈을 키우지만 현실은 그리 만만하지 않다. 그런데 평소 다쓰오가 형님으로 모시던 다카시가 모종의 계획을 세우자 다쓰오는 자세한 내용도 모른 채 이를 도와준다. 알고 보니 다카시는 금고의 돈을 훔치려는 것이었고, 다쓰오는 어영부영하다 계획에 깊이 연루되고 만다.
Yutaro Kida, a worker at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal, volunteers for the navy but finds himself a cook's mate in the galley of a gunboat. But his dream is eventually realized when he is transferred to the new and powerful destroyer Yukikaze which he helped to build. When the Pacific War breaks out Yukikaze performs valiantly in the South Pacific, and while on shore leave, Kida meets and falls in love with Yukiko, younger sister of his commander.
The university professor Ozeki Hitoshi (Ryu Chishu) is regarded as an eccentric by people in his surroundings. When his daughter Tokiko is asked to marry a colleague, she and her mother are overjoyed, but Hitoshi is not satisfied with the situation.
