미즈키의 남편 유스케가 바다에서 실종된 지도 3년이 지났다. 어느 날 그가 갑작스럽게 집으로 돌아왔을 때, 부인은 그다지 놀라지 않는다. 대신, 왜 돌아오는데 이렇게 오랜 시간이 걸렸는지를 궁금해 한다. 그녀는 여행을 떠나자는 유스케의 제안을 받아들인다.

Shimada has been failing auditions one after another and worked as an extra in films. One day, his senior colleague invites him to audition for a company called "Friendship," where actors pretend to be the person the customer wants them to be. Accepting the job, he encounters a customer, Mio, who is planning terrorism.

The Story of the 1 Litre of Tears special takes place after the events in the main drama. The Special takes the view of Asou Haruto who is remembering life the way it used to be before the events of the last episode of the series.
