On an urban island in Shanghai, Yoyo starts secretly following Lan Tian. In a parallel world, Lan Tian is quietly observing Yoyo in the distance. Trapped in a twin-towered shopping complex, they experience two variations of encounters, as affections, desires and other feelings start to appear.

On an ordinary day in a city in northern China, people struggle with their lives as usual. A middle-aged man finds his job has been given to a young person. The man's wife wants a new life. Some high school students are numbly arranged in the schoolyard. And a young teacher is trying to change the traditional education system. The owner of a barbershop forces the barbers to go into the streets to grab customers. Similarly, a barbecue shop owner is transforming his shop into a nightclub. When night falls, people finish work and come to the new nightclub. They lose themselves in the gorgeous illusion.

Follows a big star who brings a film crew to her remote hometown for a shoot, and while the production is afflicted by disagreements between the crew, a bored local restaurant owner finds excitement to be the stand-in for the star.

중국 남부 도시 선전에 사는 젊은 커플 동과 주안은 일종의 권태기를 겪는 듯 보인다. 동은 낡아 빠진 테마파크의 경비원으로 일하면서 무대 연기자를 꿈꾸고 있고, 주안은 꽃가게에서 일하며 배달을 겸하고 있다. 어느 날 두 사람에게 각기 비밀스런 관계가 생긴다. 동은 매일같이 호수를 찾아오는 여성 유안과 친해지고 주안은 꽃 배달을 시키는 고객인 중년 남자 롱에게 끌린다. 아직 어린 남녀는 보다 성숙한 상대를 통해 세상을 좀 더 알게 된다.

순을 맞이한 위씨 집안의 노모는 고희연에서 갑자기 뇌졸중으로 쓰러진다. 어머니는 다행히 깨어나지만 치매 판정을 받는다. 각자의 삶과 가족 문제로 바쁘게 사는 사형제들은 병든 노모를 두고 누가 돌볼 것인가에 대한 문제에 직면하고 가족이라는 이름으로 결속된 그들의 운명은 서로를 향한 의심과 각자의 딜레마로 인해 시험에 빠져든다. 절강성 근처 푸춘강과 푸춘산 자락을 따라 모여 살고 있는 한 가족의 이야기를 통해 현대사회에서 가족의 의미를 되새기게 한다.

다르지와 드롤카 부부는 연로한 아버지와 세 아들과 함께 티베트 초원에서 평온하고 평범한 일상을 보낸다. 어느 날 아버지의 갑작스러운 죽음으로 가족들이 슬픔에 빠진 상황에서, 다르지와 드롤카 부부에게 뜻하지 않은 임신 소식이 전해진다. 중국의 산아제한 정책으로 또 아이를 낳는 것을 염려하는 드롤카와 임신한 아이가 분명 돌아가신 아버지의 환생이라 믿는 다르지는 대립하게 된다.
