Quiet man Thomas is a cattle farmer who leads an unchanging existence in rural Jutland. Polish seasonal workers are his only company. It may look like a lonely life, and it might be a lonely life. But there is much to do at the farm, enough to forget the calls that go unanswered and the reasons there might be for the silence.

청소년 전문 변호사로 쌍둥이 딸들과 의사 남편과 함께 행복한 삶을 살고 있었던 안느. 남편과 전부인 사이에서 낳은 아들 구스타브가 사고를 치고 집에 들어오면서 다섯 식구는 함께 살아가게 된다. 남들이 보기에 완벽한 삶을 살고 있었지만 안느는 중년의 위기를 겪고 있었고 구스타브는 계속 사고를 쳐 안느를 힘들게 한다. 그러던 중 구스타브가 여자 친구를 집으로 데려와 관계를 맺게 되고 안느는 알 수 없는 감정을 느끼게 된다. 안느의 외로움을 눈치 챈 구스타브가 안느에게 다가오고 그렇게 안느와 구스타브는 가까워진다. 약속이나 한 듯 안느와 구스타브는 하룻밤을 보내게 되고 그렇게 위험한 관계가 시작되는데...
