The quintessential renaissance creative this son of Cabo Verde, a'Ali DeSousa graces both sides of the lens with authenticity, poignant and impacting storytelling. An up and coming independent filmmaker he is willing to provocatively ask us to look at our stories as humans in a way we are unaccustomed. Beginning his stage and film experience in his teens it is clear that the stream of consciousness that flows through him is undeniably an earnest and clarion call to humanity for compassion and understanding. A proud son of Cabo Verde whose families immigrated to the USA, a'Ali grew up on the South Shores of Massachusetts & Cape Cod. a'Ali"s his father was from Cabo Verde and his mother from St. Kitts in the Caribbean. Each of his grandparents are of different cultures and ethnicity. Those close to a'Ali and long time friends say perhaps that contributes greatly to his empathetic view of humanity. Also a published author and songwriter, perhaps his most unknown work is his poetry and prose, reminiscent of Gibran, Rumi and Hafiz.

In the not so distant future, about 30,000 clones, also known as "The Secret Children," live harmoniously with the humans who created them more than 30 years ago. However, the lives of clones drastically change when a dictator named Bloomquist takes over the presidency and leads a campaign to extinguish them. The new regime instates a Clone Monitoring Committee to fulfill its goal to eradicate the clones until they are all destroyed.

Still proudly flaunting its progressive values, a young independent nation prepares to celebrate an all-purpose holiday called The Sovereign. Despite the declared moral superiority, the little nation is rife with inequality, apathy and a strengthening authoritarian framework. For the 24-hour holiday, citizens are encouraged to share their blessings with the less fortunate. Predictably, the practice at times seems more like performance art rather than a community service. The story revolves around two pregnant cousins, Sila and Marilu, both throwing fundraisers for their babies' birthday funds, ultimately vying for a top donation from their rich Aunt Cara, a self-indulgent playwright. While the cousins duel for the top dollar, we drop in on the different experiences populating this patchwork community and listen in on some familiar challenges.
