때는 2021년 여름, 유럽연합 국회의 일원인 펠릭스는 미래 발전을 모색할 새로운 지역 탐색을 조사하기 위해 그리스 재무부 직원 등으로 구성된 조사단을 꾸려 에게해 탐색에 나선다. 그들이 처음으로 도착한 것은 아르메나키섬. 독자적인 규율과 도덕을 가진 이곳 사회는 65세 이상 노인은 모든 것이 공짜고 아픈 이들은 무료로 병원을 찾아가는, 이른바 돈이 필요 없는 땅이다. 펠릭스와 그의 일행은 이 낯설지만 평화로운 아르메나키 주민들의 삶에 천천히 동화되어 가는데...

Revenge is a recurrent theme in thrillers, usually dispensed by action heroes with a well-stocked arsenal. But in Yorgos Tsemberopoulos’s nuanced moral maze the protagonist is the bookish Kostas (Manolis Mavromatakis), a suburban florist well versed in social and political theory, which he discusses at length with a local publican. But when his home is invaded by masked hoodlums, who bind his family and rape his teenage daughter, our everyman hero finds his intellectual stance untenable. Encouraged by his paranoid, militarist neighbour, Kostas decides to take the law into his own hands, and in doing so begins to understand – for the first time – the world he has been living in. The vigilante movie is a well-explored genre too, but Tsemberopoulos gives it a whole new urgency, subverting the cliched right-wing fantasy structure and seeing it through the eyes of a man who comes to find his real self while trying to live up to the (imagined) expectations of others.
