마사시는 가족사진 전문 사진작가이다. 어딘지 독특한 마사시의 가족은, 자신들이 되고 싶었던 직업을 골라 다 같이 분장을 하고 ‘코스프레’ 가족사진을 찍기 시작하는데, 이 사진들로 주목받게 된 마사시에게 전국 각지에서 사연 있는 가족사진을 촬영해 달라는 요청이 쇄도한다. 2011년 3월 일본 지진 직후 마사시는 후쿠시마에서 ‘사진 세탁(photo cleaning)’ 자원봉사를 시작하고, 사진을 찍는다는 행위, 그리고 가족사진의 의미에 대해 다시 생각하게 된다.
