반항기 충만한 사춘기 여고생 딸에게 고등학교 3년 내내 하루도 빠지지 않고 캐릭터 복수 도시락을 싸준 엄마가 있다. 무뚝뚝하고 까칠하고 귀염성이란 찾아보기 힘든 딸은 매일 점심시간 도시락 뚜껑을 여는 것이 두려웠다. “제발 평범한 도시락을 싸달라고!”라며 엄마에게 애원하지만, 엄마는 ‘네가 반항을 멈추지 않으면, 복수 도시락은 절대 못 그만둬!’라며 매일 딸의 손에 ‘평범하지 않은 도시락’을 들려준다.
교외에서 발생한 연속 의문사를 조사하던 신입기자 슌야는 피해자들이 죽음을 맞이하기 3일 전 어떠한 사정으로 그들과 관련된 아이들이 실종된 상태라는 공통점, 그리고 그것과 내용이 일치하는 "아이의 저주"라는 소문에 대해 알게 된다. 그리고 그의 어릴 적 친구인 콘도 소우까지도 그 사건의 피해자가 되며, 그와 관련된 어린아이가 사건 직전에 부르던 노래를 들은 슌야는 사건을 더욱 파헤치기 시작한다. 한편, 슌야의 연인인 유치원 교사 나오미는 아끼던 원생 카사하라에게 미움을 받는 일이 생기고 그 저주에 걸리고 만다. 슌야는 그 저주로 목숨을 잃는 3일 후까지 나오미를 구해야 하고 그녀와 둘이서 저주를 조사하여 그 핵심에 다가가게 되지만, 그 사건의 배후에 있던 "코도모츠카이"라는 7명의 아이 영혼이 모습을 나타낸다.
