외딴 와차투미 골짜기에서 붉은 뱀을 찾고 있는 자연 사진작가 하퍼는 우연히 숲속에서 어떤 남자들이 한 남자를 나무에 매달아 채찍으로 때려 죽이는 장면을 목격한다. 이를 놓칠 수 없던 하퍼는 이 장면을 사진으로 찍어 근처 경찰서로 향하지만 그곳의 경찰 또한 그 남자들과 한 편이었고, 결국 하퍼는 그들에게 납치 당해 레이브너 일당이 있는 곳으로 끌려간다. 레이브너와 남자들이 자리를 비운 사이 탈출한 하퍼는 자신을 추적하는 레이브너 일당을 한 명씩 죽이며 골짜기에서 탈출하려 하는데…
