뉴욕의 한 저택. 관리인을 모집하는 그곳에 달링 (로렌 애슐리 카터)가 찾아온다. 집주인(숀 영)은 그녀에게 집을 잘 부탁한다 말하면서 예전 관리인이 이 집의 옥상에서 추락했었음을, 그리고 사람들은 이 집을 유령의 집이라 부른다는 말을 한다. 그러면서 집의 명예 회복을 위해 힘써달라는 집 주인. 집주인이 떠난 후 짐을 정리하던 달링은 옷장 서랍에서 역 십자가 목걸이를 발견한다. 그리고 식료품을 사러 밖에 나갔다오던 중 달링은 왠 남성이 역 십자가 목걸이를 주워주는 것을 받게된다. 그러면서 떠오르는 그때의 기억. 마치 편린처럼 스쳐간 그 기억은 달링을 괴롭히기 시작했다. 그날 밤 잠자리에 들던 달링은 이상한 느낌에 잠에서 깨고, 복도 끝에 잠겨져있는 방에 대한 생각을 하게된다. 그러면서 떠오르는 기억의 편린들. 다음날 아침 집주인으로 부터 걸려온 전화를 받은 그녀는 자신을 괴롭히던 마음 속 일 중 하나를 끝내기로 마음먹는데...
