1940년 5월, 독일 팬저 부대 전격적으로 인해 영국과 프랑스의 연합군은 프랑스의 요충지인 덩케르크 항구까지 후퇴하게 된다. 독일군이 파리를 점령하기 위해 방향을 잠시 바꾼 사이 영,프 연합군은 뎅케르크에서 철수작전을 시작한다. 주인공 밥 레이스 상병도(대니 디어) 대원들을 이끌고 덩케르크로 철수하기 위해 후퇴를 하지만 최후의 방어선을 친 영국군에게 저지당하고만다. 이에 밥 레이스는 이를 거부하며 장교를 폭행하게 되고, 그로 인해 결국 영국 군사교도소에 수감되게 된다. 이 후 프랑스는 독일에게 점령당해 괴뢰정부가 수립되는 상황을 맞이하며, 결국 영국 홀로 독일과 맞서 싸워야 하는 상황에 놓인다. 영국은 이에 대항하기 위해 존스 소령(숀 빈)의 지휘 아래 수감된 레이스 상병마저 포함시킨 최초의 특수부대인 "No.30 코만도"를 꾸려 지옥의 훈련에 돌입하게 되는데...

The idea was to let the directors tell their own worst nightmare. 5 short films were produced and edited together as one movie for the cinema with the duration of 33 minutes. An unusual cinema project, but then again, more exciting!
