치안경찰로 오랜 관록을 쌓아온 램지 경사는 과거에 높은 빌딩위까지 범인을 추적하다 놓친 뒤로는 고소공포증에 걸려, 치안에서 손을 떼고 광란 로보트 진압 전담반의 탐정으로 활약하는 로보트 전문가. 교통사고로 아내를 잃고 가족이라고는 어린 외아들 바비와 가정부인 로보트 로아뿐. 미사일 등 정밀 전자기기를 생산하는 회사의 기술자 존슨의 집에서 가정용 로보트가 아내와 처제를 죽이고 어린 아기의 목숨까지 위협한다는 신고가 들오온다. 램지 경사는 목숨을 걸고 안으로 들어가 로보트를 덮쳐 끄고 아기를 구출해 영웅이 된다. 그러나 아기의 아버지 존슨은 자기 아들을 버리고 달아나 버린다. 수상히 여긴 램지경사는 그를 추적하는데, 제3의 인물이 나타나 이상한 무기로 존슨을 죽이고 도망친다.
