Two cultists do door-to-door missionary work and in one house accidentally kill a person. That same night, a group of live action role-players enter the house. The cultists must hide the body, play along and survive the night.

첫 장면부터 청소차가 새벽을 가른다. 청소부는 제각기 정해진 구역에서 익숙하게 쓰레기를 처리한다. 청소부 니칸더(Nikander)의 일상이 피아노선율에 따라 잔잔히, 사뭇 엄숙하게 펼쳐진다. 이 작품은 청소부 니칸더(Nikander) 가 다친 손목을 계기로 슈퍼마켓 계산대 아가씨 일로나(Ilona)와의 만남을 갖게 되면서 시작된다. 가난하고 소외 받는 이들의 삶과 사랑에 초점이 맞춰져 있다. 그들은 사랑의 감정조차 억누른 채 너무도 소극적인 모습으로 일관한다. 가난에 짓눌린 그들이 엮는 소심한 사랑은 어둠과 함께 시작하고 내내 어둠에만 머물러 있다. 그럴듯한 식당에서도 호텔예서도 심지어 직장에서조차 이들은 냉대 받는다. 익숙해진 사회의 멸시 속에서 소박한 두 사람의 사랑은 오히려 소중한 가치를 지닌다. 천국의 그림자가 화려한 도시의 그늘에 가려진, 바로 그 어둠을 상징한다면 역설적이게도 그 어둠을 걷는 자의 삶은 누추하고 고적하기만 하다.
Based on the Bertolt Brecht play, the movie follows the farmer Puntila, who when he's sober is a real pig but whenever he gets drunk becomes very generous. Puntila is trying to get his daughter to get married, but the problem is that his drunk self wants her to marry another man than his sober personality wants.
A theater group is training for the play Lapualaisooppera. We see these young people hanging out and talking about what goes on around them.Also sexual matters are involved there and this girl, Tenu, becomes pregnant to Hessu.
