실내장식가인 폴라(잉그리드 버그만)는 트럭매매를 하는 부유한 신사 로제(이브 몽땅)와 5년째 연인사이지만 둘은 결혼을 하지 않는다. 이유는 로제가 바람둥이기 때문이다. 하지만 폴라는 바람둥이 로제를 이해하려 노력하지만 어느 날 의뢰인의 아파트에 갔다가 그 집 아들인 멋진 젊은 청년을 만나게 된다. 첫눈에 폴라에게 호감을 느낀 청년은 폴라에게 접근한다.
