Among the other honky-tonk legends are Ray Price ("Heartaches by the Number"), Porter Wagoner ("Misery Loves Company"), Dave Dudley ("Six Days on the Road"), Ernest Tubb ("Walking the Floor Over You") and Bobby Bare ("Detroit City").

50년대말. 미국 팝시장은 떠오르는 별 '팻시 클라인(Patsy Cline: 제시카 랭 분)'의 인기로 흥분되어 있다. 그러나 정작 팻시의 애인 찰리(Charlie Dick: 에드 해리스 분)는 그녀의 성공과 반비례하여 고독과 소외감에 빠지고야 마는데, 팻시의 치명적 교통사고 이후 두사람은 다시 불타는 사랑을 확인한다. 이때 팻시의 히트곡이 전국적인 대히트를 치고 아기가 탄생하여 두사람은 최고의 행복을 만끽하는 순간, 지방공연을 위해 여행중인 팻시는 비행기가 절벽에 부딪치며 어처구니없이 숨을 거두고 만다.
