Niara, a police clerk about to retire, is touched by the case of Jana, a single mother and widow who appears at the police station to claim satisfaction regarding the lack of investigation into the brutal death of the father of her newborn daughter. Added to her personal motivations and the recurring misogyny and corruption of her chief delegate, the clerk crosses the limits imposed on her to try to discover what goes on behind the institution she works for.

(2003년 제29회 서울독립영화제) 연출의도 시네마 노보(Cinema Novo)의 산증인 카를로스 디에게스 감독이 99년 이후 내놓은 신작 는 그가 로드 무비 장르로 다시 돌아왔음을 알려주고 있다. 텔레비전이라는 새로운 라이벌을 만나 현대화의 흐름 속에서 좌충우돌하는 일단의 카니발 배우들이 등장하는 79년작 에서와 같이 이 최신작에서 노감독이 보여주고자 하는 것은 아름다움에 대한 찬사와 그의 조국 브라질에 대한 애정이다. 또한 일련의 브라질 영화들이 담고 있는 거친 사회에 대한 비관적인 대응과는 달리 좀 더 나아질 미래에 대한 노감독의 지긋한 낙관 또한 내비치고 있는 작품이다.
