2005년 교황 요한 바오로 2세의 죽음으로 가톨릭 추기경들은 콘클라베를 위해 바티칸으로 모인다. 세번의 투표 끝에 보수적인 입장에서 가톨릭 신앙을 추구하는 강경파 라칭거가 교황 직위를 얻게 된다. 하지만 재임 기간 중 성직자들이 재단 소년들을 괴롭히고 바티칸의 기밀 유서가 유출되는 등 전무후무한 교회 스캔들에 휩싸인 라칭거는 자진해서 교황직을 내려놓고자 한다. 비슷한 시기, 스스로가 가진 마음의 짐 때문에 추기경직을 사퇴하려는 베르고글리오가 라칭거를 찾는다.
Leo is going through a rough patch. His job as a college professor doesn’t provide him with enough money, and to make matters worse, his partner leaves him. He will look for palliatives during one Buenos Aires evening filled with excess in which the threat of self-destruction is always lurking.

Enzo is employed in a neighborhood garage that borrows a luxurious car for a while and convinces his friend Richard to accompany him. Its owner is a cruel mafioso who will make them live a nightmare night to these guys who just want to have fun.
