The United States is considered a symbol of freedom, the great social experiment made of democratic principles, equality, and the pursuit of happiness. But does this ideal of prosperity and individual freedom reflect the life of all American citizens? My America recounts today's United States: a nation grappling with increasingly complex social problems and heightened political tensions that have weakened the distinctive characteristics of what is considered the most powerful democracy in the world. Besides this social malaise, there is also the ability and determination of regular citizens who try to challenge and repair the country's moral fiber.

Present-day Venice. Far from the swarms of tourists and cruise ships an alternate topography is made plain— one lived at the edges of the ancient city's lagoons, beneath the surface of its canals. A shipwright, a Venetian rowing champion, a diver, a fish merchant and a fisherman chronicle their daily lives as proximate and dependent on water, the founding element of the Venetian Republic a thousand years prior.

Leonidas, of noble lineage but poor, serves in the house of Count Aristide Of the Fava Dongo, waiting patiently for his death to arrive. He dies at last, but rumors reveal that, on his deathbed, the Count has decided to leave everything to Marco (Claudio Ercoli), his illegitimate and retarded son who secretly grew up in a boarding school. In the meantime, the whole family of Leonida moves to the luxurious estate as for certainly no one wants to miss out on this wealth opportunity...
