일본 SF 애니메이션의 명작 를 실사영화화 하였다. 감독은 야마자키 타카시, 주인공 코다이 스스무(古代進) 역을 기무라 타쿠야가 맡았다. 태평양전쟁에서 격침됐던 옛 일본군 전함 야마토가 부활해 외계인의 침략을 물리친다는 이야기.

Asami returns exhausted after three years of intense training to become a yakuza hunter. She decides to visit her old master, Inokuma, who runs a bar. However, she finds his place in ruins and nothing is as it was when she left. As it turns out, the local yakuza had turned it into a gambling house and laid claim to the entire area with the help of a cold-blooded killer named Akira. Akira is relentless, and utilizes cruel tactics when anyone dares get in her way.

일본에서 둔갑술을 공부하고 있는 서양인 케이시는 같은 도장의 라이벌인 케이시에게 스승의 후계자 자리를 빼앗긴다. 도장에서 쫓겨나기까지 한 그는, 스승에게서 마지막 코가 닌자의 무기들이 보관되어 있는 곳으로 가 대대로 전해 내려오는 신비의 닌자 무기 ‘요로이 비츠’를 탈취하라는 명을 받고 뉴욕으로 가게 된다. 이 후 그는 다시 도장에 잠입하여 피비린내 나는 혈전을 벌이게 된다.

의뢰인의 비밀 정보를 근거로 검은 시장에 잠입하여 출처 불명의 돈을 훔쳐 다시 의뢰인에게 배분하는 '리터너' 미야모토. 전투에서 그를 이길 자는 없지만, 고아인 그는 어렸을 때 절친한 친구가 모르는 사람에게 살해당한 어두운 과거를 가지고 있다. '리터너'로 일하면서 그는 항상 친구의 복수를 가슴 속에 간직하고 있다. 지하 세계와 관련되면서 그는 검은 시장을 장악하고 있는 미조구치라는 남자를 만나는 그는 바로 미야모토의 어릴 적 친구를 살해한 사람이다. 분노에 사로잡힌 미야모토는 미조구치를 공격하지만 격렬한 전투 중 미조구치는 미야자키를 피해 달아나고, 미야자키는 실수로 한 정체 불명의 소녀를 쏘게 된다. 다행히 생명에는 지장이 없고, 그녀는 사실 미야모토의 중요한 고객임이 밝혀진다. 그러나 그녀가 부탁하는 중요한 임무란 바로 지구의 미래를 구하는 것이다.

11-year-old Yusuke and his classmates camp in the woods and see a strange light. They discover a small metallic object like a robot which talks, calls himself Tetra and knows Yusuke's name. Tetra can create wonderful gadgets but actually has to save the world with Yusuke's help from extraterrestrials with bad intentions.
