테디(진 와일더)는 광고회사 직원으로서 가정적인 순진한 남자이다. 그러던 어느날 테디는 아름다운 미모의 여인에게 반하게 되는데, 이후 그는 그 여인이 광고회사의 모델임을 알게 된다. 테디는 모델 샤롯(켈리 르브룩)의 주위를 맴돌면서 그녀와 데이트할 수 있는 기회를 얻으려 노력한다. 그러던 중 테디는 친구들의 도움을 받아 샤롯과 둘이 밤을 지낼 수 있는 기회를 얻는다. 그러나 출장갔던 샤롯의 남편이 갑자기 나타나게 되고, 창 밖으로 몸을 피한 테디는 9층 아파트 창문가에서 자살을 기도하는 사람으로 오해받는다. 테디의 자살을 막기 위해 경찰과 기자, 구급대원들이 몰려들게 되고 집에서 텔레비젼을 보던 테디의 아내는 남편을 위해 눈물을 흘린다.
