아빠 없이 자란 수잔은 산타클로스 할아버지의 존재에 대해 의문을 갖고 있었으나 이런 생각은 엄마가 일하는 백화점에서 산타로 일하는 크리의 등장으로 완전히 바뀌게 된다. 수잔에게 산타의 존재를 믿게 하려는 크리의 노력으로 수잔은 물론이고 그 주변의 사람들도 마침내 사랑과 밑음, 그리고 가족의 소중함에 대해 새로이 눈을 뜨기 시작한다.

오말레이 신부(빙 크로스비 분)는 뉴욕 인근의 노동자들이 거주하는 교구의 도미닉 성당에 새로 부임하게 된다. 부채도 많고 피폐해진 도미닉 성당은 괴팍하고 고루한 자신의 방식을 고수하는 피츠지본 신부(배리 피츠제랄드)가 보좌신부로 있었는데, 그는 자신이 45년간 고수해 온 방식에 만족하며 오말레이의 쾌활하고 적극적인 성격을 못마땅하게 여긴다. 오말레이 신부는 피츠지본의 권위에 드러나게 도전하지 않으면서도 서서히 성당을 변모시켜 나간다. 배짱좋게 동네 깡패들과 싸워 이긴 오말레이 신부는 그들을 성가대로 조직하는가 하면, 도미닉 성당의 저당권을 가지고 있는 테트 하이네스(진 록히드 분)가 성가대 투어로 모금활동을 벌이려는 피츠지본을 축출할 계획을 세우자 한발 앞서 이를 저지하고, 저당 잡힌 도미닉 성당의 문제를 해결하고, 하이네스의 아들(제임스 브라운 분)과 고아인 캐롤 제임스(진 헤더 분)의 로맨스를 역어준다. 거기다 오말레이 신부는 자신을 탐탁치않게 여기는 피츠지본 신부가 아흔살이 된 아일랜드계 어머니와 사이가 좋지 않음을 알고 이를 화해시켜주기도 한다.

Small town politician and banker Brent Warren is responsible for a murder, but only George Roan is sent to the gallows for it. Roan, however, is resuscitated after he is hung and proceeds to secretly haunt Warren's life. District attorney Cullen Grant is sure that Warren was behind the killing and has him arrested. Warren's fiancee, Dare Keeling, also happens to the Grant's ex-sweetheart, and she believes in his innocence. Her brother, Larry, however, isn't so sure and he goes to work as Warren's secretary.

A man rises from rags to riches, first by boxing, then as a saloon owner, freight contractor, and eventually dockyard boss. However, the man's brother-in-law complicates things with his dockworker union activism. The film is presumed lost.
