고대 유물에 대한 비밀이 대대로 내려오는 가문의 전문성을 뒤로 한 채 허원은 작은 전파상을 운영하며 살아간다. 어느 날, 아버지에게 버림받고 소가전을 고쳐주며 살던 허원을 사람들이 찾아오고 일본인 카나코에게 불상의 머리를 인수 받으라고 한다. 그리고 당나라 시대의 부처의 머리를 반환할 계획이 밝히면서 그는 값을 매길 수 없는 유물을 둘러싼 총력전에 빠지게 된다.
