The film begins in a village, where a wealthy couple, Ganapathi (Chadalavada) & Rangamma (Kannamba) has a son Krishna (Akkineni Nageswara Rao) and a daughter Swarajyam (Suryakala). Durjaya succeeds in his plot to kill and overthrow his brother and takes the throne of the Vindhya Kingdom. Prince Shivasri, attended by Shatamitra, waits for an opportunity to take revenge. In the midst of this revenge plot, both men have eyes for Avanti who loves Shivasri but is Queen to Durjaya.
