Story
학교 불량배들에게 항상 당하던 주인공이 우연히 학교 불량배들에게 쫓기다 학교 도서관에 들어가게 된다. 도서관에 들어간 주인공은 우연히 '네버엔딩 스토리'라는 책을 읽게되면서 이야기가 전개된다. 주인공은 책에 주문을 외우면서 판타지 세계에 들어가게 된다. 판타지 세계에서 주인공은 난쟁이 부부와 나무 인형, 돌 인형, 용 인형을 만나게 되는데 거기에서 주인공은 책을 도서관에 두고 왔다는 사실을 알게 된다. 불량배들은 그 책을 읽어가며 나쁜일들 모의하게된다. 그러면서 판타지 세계에도 점점 악의 무리가 몰려 들어오게된다. 악의무리를 퇴치하기 위해 다시 현실의 세계로 돌아오게 된다. 주인공이 가져온 목걸이를 주인공 여동생이 훔치면서 목걸이의 마력을 잃게 되는데...

When one of her lovers gets jealous, she betrays him and has to skip town. The grifter reveals he has what it takes to move in upper class circles and suggests they flee to Carlsbad, a spa in Czechoslovakia. Does he love her or is he only using her? Is the Tigress madly in love with him or does she want to satisfy her vanity and drop him once he falls for her? The ancient cat and mouse game between a man and a woman unfolds amidst sensual seduction, the scheme of robbing a rich Texan and the jilted lover arriving from Berlin, gun drawn.

Screenplay
바스티앙(Bastian Bux: 조나단 브랜디스 분)은 아버지와 둘이 사는 겁많은 소년으로 겁먹고 다이빙을 못해서 수영팀이 되지 못한다. '끝없는 이야기'라는 책의 세계로 다시 가게된 바스티앙은 위험에 빠진 환타지아를 구하려 하고 그러기 위해 이름을 찾아 소년 전사 아트레이유(Atreyu: 케니 모리슨 분)와 나르는 용 펠코와 함께 떠난다. 마녀 자이드(Xayide: 클레어리사 버트 분)는 환타지아가 인간들의 꿈으로 존재함을 이용. 바스티앙의 기억을 없앰으로써 결국에는 자신의 임무조차 망각하게 만들려 한다. 이름은 찾았지만 자신의 실수로 아트레이유가 위험에 처하자 바스티앙은 마녀의 음모를 깨닫고 마지막 소원을 지혜롭게 활용하여 마녀를 소멸시킨다. 바스티앙의 아버지 바니(Barney Bux: 존 웨슬리 쉽프 분)는 아들을 찾다가 집에서 '끝없는 이야기' 책을 읽으며 아들을 응원하고 바스티앙은 아버지의 목소리를 듣고 용기를 발휘하여 모험을 끝내고 집으로 돌아온다.

Berlin Film Fest 1984. The best place for every cinema fan. Everyone wants to be in on the festival, but that may be really difficult, if one has no accreditation. Also Journalist Matthies gets to know the rules of being in or out when he wants to see a screening and is not welcome. Thus he watches an old German silent flick which he is barely interested in. The next day the newspapers are full of reports about a newly discovered German masterpiece from the silent era. It seems that Matthies had luck. He just saw *the* film everybody is talking about now. Also everybody is speculating about its director, who remains unknown. When Matthies talks to Ackrewa, an old befriended projectionist, about the film, the latter seems to recall the name of the director. Matthies decides to research the case. An odyssey into film-history begins and if it is successful Matthies will come up with a top story.
