스무 살 청년 탄은 큰 사고를 당해 6개월간 혼수상태로 있다가 퇴원해 집에 돌아온다. 오랜만에 돌아온 집이지만 반갑고 편안하기는커녕 영 어색하고 불편하다. 탄이 병원에 입원한 날 쓰러지신 할아버지는 더욱 노쇠해져서 기억도 잃고 안락의자에만 앉아서 오늘내일하신다. 게다가 어려서부터 한집에 살면서 가장 친하게 지내온 사촌 동생은 실종되었다. 그녀가 혼전 임신을 해서 가족의 명예를 실추시키는 바람에 집에서 쫓겨나다시피 사라졌다는 얘기를 듣지만, 탐은 그 말을 믿을 수 없다. 애초에 사촌 동생은 딸로 태어났다는 이유만으로 오랫동안 구박받으면서 집에서 원래부터 없었으면 했던 존재였기 때문이다. 탐이 가장 아끼고 보호해주고 싶었던 사촌 동생이기에 그녀를 찾고자 노력하지만 가족들은 진실을 말해주려 하지 않는다. 계속해서 사촌 동생의 환영을 마주치며 품어왔던 의구심의 충격적인 실체를 알게 된다. 가장 가까운 관계라도 각자의 욕망과 탐욕에 눈이 멀어 파편화된 가족의 단면이 드러난다.

Adapted from the famous horror novel of the same name by author Thao Trang. One night at the end of the year, Mr. Thap - the village chief and also the only one who can safely descend the mountain - was told in a dream by three snakes that Hell Village was about to encounter great disaster. Terrible things happened in succession, causing people to experience a haunting and terrifying Tet season. From a place of indignation, they began to turn to suspicion and turn against each other. Who is behind all this crime? Will the nightmare in Hell's Village be over, or will this place be engulfed in the fate that it's called?
