‘고요한 아침의 여왕’은 29살 주인공 데보라가 원치 않던 10살 딸 모나를 기르며 토론토 스트립 바에서 매춘부로 일하며 살아가는 내용을 그렸다. 한국에서 이민을 온 주인공과 딸은 학대와 가난, 트라우마로 뒤엉킨 삶을 개선해보려고 애쓴다. 영화는 가난과 고통 속에 처한 아시안 여성이 마주해야 하는 문제와 그에 대한 사람들의 시선을 보여주고 어려움 속에서도 포기하지 않고, 끝까지 일어서는 엄마와 딸의 이야기 속에서 관객들이 ‘성장’과 ‘사랑’이라는 주제를 전한다. 주인공 데보라를 연기한 배우 티나 정은 현지의 인기 시트콤 ‘김씨네 편의점’에 출연한 한인 2세 배우다.
