여름방학에 보충수업을 받는 13명의 낙제 여고생들이 합주부에게 도시락을 전해주자는 토모코(우에노 주리)의 제안을 구실로 일탈을 감행한다. 그러나 전달된 도시락이 여름 땡볕에 상해 합주부 전원이 식중독에 걸리는 대사건이 발생, 나카무라를 제외한 합주부 전원이 병원에 입원하게 된다. 낙제생 소녀들은 그 자리를 대신하기로 결심하며 재즈의 세계에 발을 담그게 된다. 식중독에 걸렸던 합주부원들이 제자리로 돌아오자 토모코를 비롯한 못말리는 낙제소녀들은 다시 일상으로 돌아오게 되고 잠시나마 경험했던 재즈에 재미를 느낀 이들은 자신만의 스윙밴드, 일명 ‘스윙걸즈’를 조직하려는데...
