인종차별적 비방에 격분한 마티아스는 동료를 때려눕히고 야반도주한다. 고향에 돌아온 그는 옛 연인 칠러와 재회하는데, 칠러가 일하는 빵 공장은 최저임금으로 주민 고용이 어려워지자 외국인 노동자를 데려오기 시작한다. 어느새 작은 마을은 적대감과 분열로 들썩거린다.
