요괴를 퇴치하는 불어문 류천지는 용이 되고 싶어 하는 물고기 요괴 샤오칭을 만나게 되고, 샤오칭은 자신의 신분을 들키지 않기 위해 자신도 요괴 퇴치사라고 거짓말을 한다. 이후 두 사람은 함께 동행하며 온갖 험난한 상황을 겪고, 중간중간 샤오칭의 착한 모습을 본 류천지는 샤오칭이 요괴가 아니라는 생각을 바꿀 뿐만 아니라 서로에게 의지하게 된다.결국 두 사람은 손을 잡고 함께 악룡의 음모를 이겨내 세상을 지켜냈고, 샤오칭은 진룡의 몸을 희생시켜 류천지를 환생시키기를 원한다.
