약력

Born in Vietnam in 1990, his interest in cinema began as a little boy looking through the small window of his house by the river in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City. He later learnt about cinema by watching foreign language films on his computer and became a cinephile. When he was 20, he borrowed an old camera and made his first short film. His short films Coal and Scent were shot in the area where he grew up. Vị (Taste), his debut feature film, won the Special Jury Award, Encounters Competition, at the Berlin International Film Festival 2021.

나이지리아에서 머나먼 베트남으로 와서 축구선수로 뛰던 바슬리는 부상 이후 팀에서 방출되어 버린다. 하지만 돈을 부쳐줘야 하는 아내와 아들에게는 이런 사실을 터놓고 말할 수가 없다. 좁은 미용실에서 숙식을 해결하며 생계를 이어가던 그는 같은 대도시의 하층 노동민들과 가까워진다. 하루 종일 벌룬을 만들지만 한 번도 타 본 적 없는 친구를 비롯하여 온갖 잡일과 장시간 노동에 지친 그들은 오래된 집에 모여 함께 살기로 결정한다. 가장 자연스러운 모습으로 몸을 씻고, 손질한 음식을 함께 먹고, 잠자리를 같이 한다. 처음에는 그들만의 천국을 얻은 듯 했지만, 질투와 작은 균열들은 결국 서로의 관계와 보금자리 자체를 위협한다.
