브롱코 빌리는 이곳저곳 돌아다니며 서부극을 하는 작은 극단을 가지고 있다. 장사는 점점 안되고 고용인들에게 임금도 지불하지 못하고 있다. 그러던 중 그는 앙뜨와네트라는 금발을 지닌 부잣집 여자를 만나게 된다. 그녀는 결혼식날 남편에게 버림을 받아 그곳에 버려져 있었다. 그녀의 생김새가 마음에 든 브롱코는 그녀를 극단에 넣지만, 그녀가 들어온 이후로 더욱 더 상황은 악화된다. 반면 그녀는 새로운 생활과 브롱코에게 눈을 떠 간다. 한 단원의 실수로 그가 감옥에 갇히자 브롱코는 그동안 모아둔 전재산과 자존심을 꺾어가며 그를 위해 애쓴다. 그런 장면을 본 앙뜨와네트는 그에게 감명받고 가까워진다. 한편 쇼를 진행하던 중에 불이 나서극단은 위기를 맞는데…
