계나는 한국이 싫다. 20대 후반에 이른 자신의 삶을 돌아보니 의미 없이 반복되는 일상에서 쌓이는 피로와 무력감뿐이다. 계나에게 잘해 주는 오랜 연인 지명이 있지만 그도 계나가 원하는 종류의 행복을 채워 주진 못한다. 게다가 계나와 지명의 집안은 이른바 계층 차이가 심한 편이라 계나의 마음 한쪽에는 불편함이 자리 잡고 있다. 직장에 취직한 지명을 축하하기 위해 지명의 가족들과 모임을 가진 뒤 계나의 불편함은 갑작스런 분노로 표출된다. 마침내 계나는 모든 걸 뒤로 하고 새로운 삶의 전환을 찾아서 뉴질랜드로 떠난다. 그곳에서 완만한 생활을 누리며 재인과 같은 좋은 친구도 만난다.
