911테러가 발생함과 함께 미국 영공은 폐쇄 되었고, 그 당시 미국 영공을 떠다니던 국제항공기는 우회하여 캐나다 뉴펀들랜드의 간더공항에 비상착륙을 하게된다. 처음에 영문을 모른채 비상 착륙했던 그들은 착륙후에 테러소식을 접하게 되고, 승객들은 필사적으로 가족과 연락하며 사랑하는 사람들을 위해 기도할 때, 마을 사람들은 가능한 모든 방법으로 그들을 돕기 위해 밤새 일한다. 그리고 마을 주민들과 그 인근 도시 주민들은 ‘비행기 피플’에게 그들의 집을 개방하고 승객의 인종, 국적, 성별에 관계 없이 받아들인다. 승객들은 처음에는 마을 사람들의 흔치 않은 환대에 깜짝 놀라지만, 천천히 경계를 늦추고 마을 사람들과 융화되기 시작한다. 하지만 테러를 직·간접적으로 경험한 그들은 공포의 시간을 직면하는 시간을 지내게 된다. 시간이 지나면서 승객들은 하나·둘씩 자기의 자리로 돌아가고, 10여년이 지나 ‘비행기 피플’들이 다시 간더공항에서 만나게 된다. 그들은 10년전의 시간을 회고하며 현재의 시간에 감사하고 테러리스트의 공격에도 두려워하지 않고 함께 도왔던 마을 주민에게 감사하는 시간을 보낸다.

Tenor Jonas Kaufmann is riveting as the title character of Gounod’s popular opera, seen in this Live in HD presentation of Des McAnuff’s thrilling 2011 production that places the mythical and timeless story in an early 20th-century setting. René Pape as Méphistophélès is menacing and elegant in equal measure, and Marina Poplavskaya delivers a searingly intense portrayal of the innocent Marguerite. Russell Braun as her brother, Valentin, shines in his Act II aria. On the podium, Yannick Nézet-Séguin brings out all the lyricism and drama of Gounod’s score.

Memphis is set in the places where rock and roll was born in the 1950s: the seedy nightclubs, radio stations and recording studios of the musically-rich Tennessee city. With an original score, it tells the fictional story of DJ Huey Calhoun, a good ole' local boy with a passion for R&B music and Felicia Farrell, an up-and-coming black singer that he meets one fateful night on Beale Street. Despite the objections of their loved ones (Huey's close-minded mama and Felicia's cautious brother, a club owner), they embark on a dangerous affair. As their careers rise, the relationship is challenged by personal ambition and the pressures of an outside world unable to accept their love. Originally shown in select theatres, then broadcast as an episode of the PBS series "Great Performances" (season 39, episode 11).

1988년 해리스버그. 기상캐스터인 러스 리차드는 어딜가나 유명세를 치르는 부와 명성의 인기인이다. 어느날 러스는 자신이 운영하는 스노 모빌 판매점이 너무나 따뜻한 겨울 날씨 탓에 재정 파산 위기에 처한다. 러스는 방송국 사장 딕에게 대출을 요구하지만 거절당하고 만다. 더 큰 위기에 부닥친 러스는 다시 딕을 찾고, 이번에는 복권당첨 조작의 유혹을 받는다. 결국 러스는 복권추첨 걸 크리스타과 함께 복권 조작을 모의하고, 당첨금을 찾을 대리인으로 크리스탈의 사촌 월터를 이만 달러에 포섭한다.
