'미켈란젤로'로 오인된 '베토벤'은 저택에서의 환경보호 캠페인 중 사고를 치고 '리처드' 집에 와 있는 '미켈란젤로'는 교육받은 행동을 보이며 주인의 인정을 받는다. 개들의 달라진 행동을 이상하게 여긴 주인들은 개들에게 진정한 행복은 원래의 생활을 돌려주는 것이라 생각하고 나름대로 애를 쓰는데...
