관동 대지진과 2차 세계대전 사이 일본에서 여성 스모는 꽃을 피웠다. 젊은 여성 스모 선수와 무정부주의 공산주의자가 만나 로맨스가 싹트는 가운데, 조선인에 대한 흉흉한 소문이 돌기 시작하고 강경한 일본 제국주의의 지배 속에서도 서민들은 점차 힘을 확장해 나아간다.
