프랑스 루이 15세 시대, 7년 전쟁 당시. 못 말리는 바람둥이 팡팡(제라르 필립 분)은 자신이 유혹한 한 여자와 어쩔 수 없이 결혼할 수밖에 없는 처지에 놓이게 된다. 결혼식장에 끌려가던 팡팡은 아들린(지나 롤로브리지다 분)을 만나게 되는데, 이 보헤미안 여인(사실은 지원군 징집 하사관의 딸)은 팡팡에게 점을 봐주면서, 앞으로 군에서 명예를 얻을 것이고 왕의 딸과 결혼할 것이라고 예언한다. 이러한 말에 매료된 팡팡은 억지로 결혼하는 것을 피하기 위해 당장 군에 자원한다. 그리고 병사에 도착하기 전, 루이 15세의 딸 앙리에트와 왕의 애첩 퐁파두르 후작부인을 강도들의 손에서 구해준다. 퐁파두르 부인은 감사의 뜻으로 다이아몬드로 된 튤립을 선사하고, 그 이후 팡팡은 "팡팡 라 튤립"이라고 불리게 된다. 운명적으로 자신이 왕의 딸과 결혼할 것이라고 믿는 팡팡은 앙리에트에게 접근하기 위해 왕궁으로 몰래 들어갔다가 체포되어 사형선고를 받는다. 팡팡을 사랑하고 있던 아들린이 왕을 찾아가 사면을 받아낸다. 그러나 그녀가 왕의 너그러운 행동에 대해 "감사하기"를 거부했기 때문에, 왕은 부하들에게 그녀를 납치해오라고 명령한다. 이러한 사실을 알게 된 팡팡은 아들린을 구하기 위해 달려간다. 왕의 부하들과 팡팡 사이에 쫓고 쫓기는 추격이 계속된다. 이 와중에 팡팡은 한창 벌어지고 있던 전투 현장에 휩쓸려 들어가고, 혈기와 대담성 덕택에 적군을 패배시킨다. 왕은 이러한 공훈을 세운 팡팡을 대위로 임명하고, 아들린을 양녀로 삼는다. 이렇게 해서 팡팡은 왕의 딸이 된 아들린과 결혼을 하게 된다.

Andre Noblet, a 21-year-old French artist falls madly in love with Christine, the mother of two children. He tells Chistine he will tell all to her husband and demand her freedom. Christine learns that her husband has been carrying on a romance of his own and they have a meeting.
