서생 '경거병'은 중상을 입고 여우의 모습으로 피해있던 요괴 '청봉'을 구해주고 ‘청봉’은 이 은혜를 갚기 위해 자신의 정체를 숨긴 채 '경거병'에게 도움을 준다. 하지만 '청봉'의 정체가 천년의 내단을 지닌 요괴임을 알게 된 ‘조왕’은 '경거병'을 이용해 그녀를 잡아 내단을 얻으려 한다.

The story is adapted from Pu Songling's original book Liao Zhai's Strange Stories. The story is about the murder of a number of men in Jinning City. As the mystery unfolds, the legendary banshee turns to be the work of a female demon. The demon-hunter Gu Shijie battles with the demons and the heroes in a battle of wits.
