우주 탐사를 목적으로 우주선에 탑승한 침팬지 아브라함은 30년 뒤 지구에 불시착한다. 우주선을 통해 배출된 녹색 액체는 몸집을 거대하게 만드는 성장 촉진 물질로 아브라함과 추락 현장 부근을 기어 다니던 큰 도마뱀이 물질에 노출된다. 함선만한 크기로 변한 두 동물은 미국의 중심부 워싱턴으로 향하고 이를 막기 위해 랭글리 센터의 머피 박사, 미 국가안보 보좌관 마르코스, 러시아 연구자 에바 박사 및 국방성 간부는 서로의 전략을 총 동원하는데....
