“A Childless Village” is a small rural village, where no children have been born for a while and all the men assume that it is the fault of the women. Two decades ago, old filmmaker Kazem came to this remote rural village to make a documentary about the sterility of the village women. But the village women wanted to protect their dignity, so they stole and burnt the footage. By today the villagers have found out that the men are barren and there is nothing wrong with the women. With the help of his assistant, Kazem tries to record some interviews with the infertile men to unfold the truth in a new movie, but this turns out in many ways to be a Mission: Impossible.

이란에서 출국금지 당한 영화 감독 자파르 파나히. 그는 한 국경 마을에 머물며 원격으로 영화 촬영을 진행한다. 그가 찍는 영화 속에는 터키에서 프랑스로 도피하려는 커플이 등장하고 그가 머무는 마을에는 오랜 관습으로 사랑을 허락받지 못한 연인들이 도피를 계획 중이다. 어느새 감독은 마을을 뒤흔드는 사건 속으로 휘말려 들어간다.

험준한 풍경 속을 달리고 있는 다정하지만 어수선한 가족. 그들의 목적지는 어디일까? 뒷좌석에 앉은 아빠는 다리가 부러졌는데, 정말 부러진 것일까? 엄마는 눈물을 참고 있을 때가 아니면 가급적 웃으려고 한다. 꼬마는 차 안에서 지치지도 않고 춤을 추고 노래를 한다. 가족들은 아픈 개를 둘러싸고 야단법석을 떨다, 서로 신경을 건드리고 만다. 미스터리한 형만이 유일하게 조용하다.

영화감독 자파르 파나히는 이란 당국에 의해 노래를 금지 당한, 천상의 목소리를 가진 한 젊은 여성을 찾아 나선다.
