오랜 친구 사이인 경찰 즈위안(고천락)과 장젠싱(곽부성)은 홍콩을 주름잡는 마약 조직의 보스 캉쑤차를 검거하기 위해 언더커버로 잠입한다. 그를 체포하기 위해 즈위안은 캉쑤차에게 자신의 정체를 밝히고 대립하지만, 그 과정에서 장젠싱이 총에 맞게 된다. 즈위안은 장젠싱을 구하려고 하지만 캉쑤차가 먼저 그를 데리고 골든 트라이앵글로 도망친다. 그곳에서 다친 몸을 회복하던 장젠싱은 자신을 진심으로 대해 주는 캉쑤차를 보며 자신의 역할에 대해 혼란에 빠진다. 그러던 중 캉쑤차를 잡기 위해 홍콩 경찰은 인터폴과 합심하여 소탕 작전을 계획하고 골든 트라이앵글에서 마약 밀매를 시도하던 캉쑤차의 숨통을 서서히 조여오는데…

Based on Pu Songling's fairy tale. Beijing official Chang Zaitian has not been to his native Luzhi Village for seven years. After an unexpected return, Chang is horrified to learn that his beloved girlfriend was killed by robbers shortly after his departure for capital exams. Suffering from a broken heart Chang meets the next day a girl named Ah Yu who looks the same as Miss Cao in his old house. During the short time they spend together Chang Zaitian feels that she is the shadow of Miss Cao. At the same time, strange things keep happening in the village, and the sorcerer, Taoist Sang, keeps saying that the village is haunted by evil spirits.
