Stephane, the wife of an older, prominent magistrate, coldbloodedly shoots a male visitor in her upscale home, then claims she was defending herself against a rapist. Victim turns out to be Wadek Aslanian, a gangster who's viewed as a modern-day Robin Hood. Paul, the lawyer hired by Stephane's husband, learns more than he really cares to know about his client, thanks to a series of anonymous letters. The notes provide a road map through the sordid areas of Stephane's past, allowing Paul to discover her history as an ex-prostitute, a porno movie performer -- and a frequent cohort of Aslanian. Naturally, Stephane's husband knows nothing about her past. Just as naturally , nothing that Paul discovers keeps him from falling in love with this mysterious woman.

1900년대 초반, 76세의 고지식한 홀아비 화가 라드미랄(루이 뒤크뢰 분)은 파리 근교에서 가정부 메르세데스(모니크 쇼메트 분)와, 그림을 벗삼아 생활하고 있다. 일요일이면 아들인 공자그(미쉘 오몽 분)가 아내와 세 아이들을 데리고 라드미랄을 방문하곤 한다. 그러던 어느 가을의 화창한 일요일, 여느때와 같이 아들 공자그의 가족이 라드미랄을 찾아오고, 혼자 살면서도 항상 바쁘다는 핑계로 아버지를 자주 찾지 않았던 딸 이렌(사빈느 아제마 분)까지 불쑥 나타난다. 라드미랄은 부르주아가 되어 현 상태를 너무나 순응적으로 받아들이고 있는 아들에게 넌지시 충고를 한다. 라드미랄은 아들이 자신처럼 현실에 안주하며 지내다 나중에 가서 그런 자신을 탓하는 상황에 처하지 않게 되기를 바라는 것이다. 한편, 이들이 얘기를 나누고 있는 사이 집밖에서는 두 손자가 위험하고 대담한 모험을 즐기고 싶어 안달이 나 있다. 그들은 곤충 한 마리를 불태워 죽이려고, 할아버지의 돋보기 안경를 쓰게 해달라고 조르고, 라드미랄은 흔쾌히 이들의 계획에 찬성하면서 안경을 사용하도록 허락한다. 노인은 손자들이 이렌처럼 적극성과 대담성을 잃지 않기를 바라는 듯이 보인다. 현실에 안주하며 소심하게 살아가는 아들과 활달하고 자유로운 정신으로 생각한 바를 바로 행동에 옮기는 이렌을 보면서 라드미랄은 화가로서의 자신의 삶을 되돌아보게 되는데..

Claire's handbag is stolen. It contained a letter written ten years previously by the man who is now the French President. In the letter he urges his pregnant mistress to have an abortion. Claire immediately alerts the President's men. From that moment, the machinery of state swings into action.

Two married couples share the same holiday house. Everything seems to go smoothly except that Pierre, one of the two husbands, is irresistibly attracted to Marthe, his friend's wife. Back from a stay in the Far East, a woman who knew the names of the chiefs of a drug ring is murdered. Georges Masse, the famous reporter, decides to investigate, accompanied by his faithful photographer P'tit Louis. He will come across some unappetizing characters like M. Dubois, a killer, Luigi Costelli, a dangerous trafficker and a beautiful but dubious lady, Suzanne Wilson. After being himself suspected, Masse will make the truth triumph.
