Vadim Kostrov (born 17 August 1998; Nizniy Tagil, Russia) is a Russian filmmaker.
In 2016 moved to Moscow. In 2017 studies in VGIK (Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography) on the faculty Dramaturgy. Shoots his first short documentary film. The "Silent Night" solely on iPhone. In 2018 leaves VGIK due to the pressure and censorship from masters. Makes his first feature documentary "Loft-Underground" — a VHS story of the Moscow art-underground culture through the prism of art Squats of 80-s 90-s and the present days. 2019 Vadim starts to work on his Ural series that include the doc-trilogy : "Narodnaya" (2019), "After Narodnaya" (2020), and "Comet" (2020). As well as his autobiographical works "Orpheus" (2019), "Summer" (2020), "Winter" (2021).
Vadim's interests lie in the connection between fiction and documentary, exploration of memories and nostalgia , filmic relationship between camera — time, and camera — nature.

The film takes us to Nizhny Tagil in September of 2021. Gosha Gordienko, the front man of the rock band Lazy Comet, and Matthew Bedin came together to compose the song Ya Videl for the new album of the group, which wasn’t finished. In Orpheus (FID 2021), Vadim Kostrov returned as a young man to the industrial city of his youth, Nijni Taguil, in the Urals. A year later, we’re back in the same city, but in a different timeframe. Little Vadim, ten years old, carries a satchel and wears a yellow cap. The grown-up Vadim follows him as he wanders from shot to shot, day and night, in the changing light of early autumn. With zooms, overprints, velvety DV and variations of points of view, Kostrov works on forms and colours like a solitary painter. The child guides the filmmaker he’s become through the density of time. Leaves and steel merge into the same rusty colour. Although the Soviet tank, a monument to the glory of local industry, is just another game for the schoolboy astride its gun, the young, melancholic filmmaker has no need to comment on it to set darker, more painful harmonies onto the image.
