As Jun waits leisurely to enlist in the army, everything starts to go sloppy after two lines appear on his girlfriend’s pregnancy test. Jun, who lost his father as a child, is at a loss because of his sudden “fatherhood”. Meanwhile, his mother Jia-ling gives Jun a golden watch, a relic from his father. Looking at the oldfashioned watch, Jun wonders if he can become a reliable man.

An introverted bookstore owner communicates with his customers through letters, sending waves of care and comfort. Three young girls, each confronted by difficulties at different stages of their lives, visit this bookstore and start their own new journeys afterwards.

일제강점기의 대만을 배경으로, 부와 권력을 가진 한 집안의 타락과 몰락을 그린다. 권력에 줄을 대며 집안을 유지해온 여인과 은밀하고 난잡한 생활을 영위하는 그녀의 딸들. 그리고 일어난 한 살인 사건을 통해 드러나는 그들의 추악한 몰골.

Pao-li is in 8th grade. When Pao-li comes to Jia-jia's rescue, they fall in love. Soon they move in together and have a daughter. However, Jia-jia gradually gets tired of the tedious life and begins an affair with a married man. When Pao-li's mother squanders his savings on gambling, Jia-jia decides to leave Pao-li. In order to win Jia-jia back, Pao-li takes a big risk.
