When both the winner and loser wind up at the hospital after their main event, it's pretty hard to argue against Fight of the Night. Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann slug it out at the UFC's debut in Kentucky, UFC on Versus 3, March 3, 2011 at thr KFC Yum! Center.

However, on September 21, 2010, Belfort withdrew with what was first said to be an injury. It was later reported that Belfort pulled out of the fight to face Anderson Silva. Originally scheduled to take place at the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, the UFC was forced to move the event to a different venue due to low ticket sales. On June 14, 2010, the event was moved to San Diego, California to be held at the San Diego Sports Arena. The event was the second UFC event to be broadcast on Versus; the first being UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones.

Featured were the finals from The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rampage vs Team Forrest in the Middleweight division as well as a main event between Kendall Grove and Evan Tanner. This was Evan Tanner's last fight before he died.
